On the 15th of October the first and the second hydraulic units of the Boguchanskaya HPP were put into pilot operation. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin started the project in video conference mode.
Currently the third hydraulic unit is passing no-load tests. The units No. 4, 5, 6 are being prepared for startup works at the end of 2012, erection works of the units No. 7 and 8 are under way.
The Boguchanskay HPP is one of the main uncompleted construction projects in the Russian and Soviet power industry. The construction of the power plant on the Angara river started as far back as 1974. In 20 years, in 1994 the construction of the power plant was in fact suspended and was resumed only in the middle 2000s. The HPP will consist of 9 hydraulic units with total installed power 3000 MW.
The customer is the OJSC “Boguchanskaya HPP”, general contractor – CJSC “Organizer of construction of the Boguchanskaya HPP”. The financing of construction is performed by the United Company “RUSAL” and the OJSC “RusHydro”. The CJSC “SWECO Soyuz Engineering”, part of SOYUZ Holding, is involved by the customer as Technical Auditor and provides engineering, legal services, services of Project budget supervision, as well as other related services in the field of management, planning, monitoring and preparation of reporting documentation at the construction stage of the Project.
The expected useful life of the HPP is one hundred years. The main power consumer of the HPP, as expected, will be the Boguchansk aluminum plant of “RUSAL” and “RusHydro”. It will be constructed in 2013 and will provide 10 thousand jobs for the region.
